Further benefits are resilience in outages, use of solar that would otherwise be curtailed, and lower peak demand that can defer grid upgrades. That leaves out the listed bidirectional equipment, installation, losses and battery wear, and the car stores energy only while it is parked and connected.",{"q":204,"a":205},"Will using my EV for home storage void the warranty?","Using unapproved equipment can. Tesla's US warranty, effective September 1, 2026, excludes stationary use outside supported Powershare setups and unusually high energy throughput, while Nissan has said its approved bidirectional charger does not affect the Leaf battery warranty. Check your automaker's current terms first.",{"q":207,"a":208},"Does an 800 V EV work with a home hybrid inverter?","Not with any US residential hybrid inverter we found; their battery inputs top out around 500 V. 800 V-class cars adapt internally to charge on 400 V chargers, but we found no case of one exporting DC at 400 V. Listed chargers such as the Wallbox Quasar 2 accept 200 to 920 V DC.",{"q":210,"a":211},"How much energy is lost using an EV as storage?","In good conditions, measured round trips return about 80 to 88 percent of the energy. At low power, low state of charge and in cold weather losses rise sharply, and in worst cases about half can be lost. Storage pays best for solar that would otherwise be curtailed and for outage backup.",{"text":213},"We design storage that can be permitted: a listed bidirectional charger where your vehicle supports it, a hybrid inverter with a listed battery, AC coupling for an existing microinverter array, and the panel and load planning around them.
